Thesis (M.A.)--University of Colorado at Boulder, 2008.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential of a dramatic form to function outside of its native culture. By examining the potential of kabuki theatre conventions to function outside of their native context, I hope to demonstrate the possibility of using non-native forms to further investigate their theatrical potential in non-native settings. If the spirit of such encounters is investigative, rather than entrepreneurial or exploitative, then, I argue, such collaborations can lead to meaningful exchanges and aesthetic developments in the field of theatre.
