The impact of trauma on cognitive, emotional, social, and physical health has been widely studied since the early 1990s. In response to this research, there has been an increase in initiatives in various sectors to increase the awareness and treatment of individuals impacted by trauma. Most recently, the federal government recognized the positive impact of integrating trauma informed care and creating a trauma sensitive culture. While these trauma initiatives are receiving national attention, these initiatives are lacking in higher education. The purpose of this study was to evaluate faculty's perception of knowledge of trauma informed care and trauma informed educational practices after participation in a trauma informed professional development session at one community college. The results of this mixed method study demonstrated an increase of knowledge of trauma informed care and trauma informed educational practices. The results also demonstrated an increase in faculty's ability to support students impacted by trauma. The integration of a trauma informed professional development session for all faculty is the first step in integration of trauma informed care and a transition to a trauma sensitive culture.
