As wells are produced and oil is harder and harder to extract, new technologies have to be made in order to fill the void made by ongoing processes. New drilling methods have to be made, along with new ways to complete, produce, and abandon wells. CwD is one method that helps the drilling side of the industry. With horizontal wells being the most predominant wells drilled today, advances have to be able to conquer the challenges ahead. Under pressure zones, troublesome formations, hard to reach pay zones, salt domes, and an array of other problems is what faces CwD as time elapses. CwD has proven effective in these instances, with being able to cause the plastering effect in wellbores, which help in strengthening of the hole. Tight annular spaces in CwD, where velocities can be uniform around the casing, help with cutting removals in deviated wells where 40-65 degree angles are dominant and cutting buildup persist. CwD cannot eliminate stuck pipe and cutting buildup, but they can be greatly reduced in horizontal well drilling. The two wells drilled in the case study, show the importance of CwD in present drilling operations. They successfully drill 7" production casing to the desired depth with a retrievable BHA and were able to remove the BHA in a very economical fashion. Non-productive time was reduced on the drill and cost savings was made to the driller company. The environmental impact left by the drilling operation was also reduced due to the ability to use a smaller drill rig while performing CwD operations. The oil and gas industry is one that does not slow down or goes backwards in time. Advancements are being made constantly to find better ways to find, extract, and refine oil and gas. The global economy runs off of these hydrocarbons and non-technological advances cannot slow the process of obtaining them. Casing while drilling is one of the important advances that make drilling for hydrocarbons in hard to reach places possible. This technology will only grow and will be used in broad applications across the globe.
