In today's economic environment, corporations are realizing that to grow they must expand overseas. Successful cross-cultural assignments can increase the corporation's international market shares and profits. While organizations may perceive expatriation as an attractive method for accumulating foreign markets, they face the challenges of selection and management of the most appropriate individuals. Thus, the factors contributing to the successful expatriation experience are significant to multinational corporations. This study was unique because it dealt specifically with Taiwanese banking expatriates in the United States. The purpose of this research focused on examining the relationship between the independent variables (job satisfaction, family support, learning orientation, organizational socialization, and cross-cultural training) and the dependent variable (cross-cultural adjustment) in a proposed model of cross-cultural adjustment. The expatriates' background and previous experiences were also tested. The quantitative research method was used in this study. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t test, multiple regression, and correlation were employed. The proposed model was significant to cross-cultural adjustment. Job satisfaction was the strongest predictor in this study. The study revealed that job satisfaction and organization socialization were important for the adjustment of expatriates. The results showed that expatriate adjustment was enhanced with greater satisfaction and better socialization in the host country. This study has replicated previous research on cross-cultural adjustment. Finally, this study offered recommendations to human resource professionals in their pursuit of managing a global workforce more effectively, and suggests avenues for future research.
