The issues of over- and under-dispersion are common in modeling count data, which occur as a result of presence of excess zeros or none occurrence than would normally be expected by Poisson distribution. The zero-truncated distributions arise in those situations where there is structurally no zero in the data. The aim of this research was to develop/derive and implement zero-truncated and zero-inflated distributions that come from the mixture of distributions for non-zero or zero-inflated count data. The specific objectives were to: (i) Derive Zero-Truncated Generalized Poisson-Akash Distribution (ZTGPAD);(ii) Obtain mathematical properties of the ZTGPAD; (iii) Derive Zero-Inflated Generalized Poisson-Akash Distribution (ZIGPAD); (iv) Obtain mathematical characteristics of the ZIGPAD and (v) demonstrate the use and assess the performance of the distributions against some existing ones using real life datasets. Hence, the Zero-Truncated and Zero-Inflated Generalized Poisson-Akash Distribution was derived from the mixture of Generalized Poisson-Akash Distribution. The first four moments, skewness, kurtosis and other mathematical properties were derived. The Maximum Likelihood Estimation of the parameters of the models were also obtained by direct maximization of the log-likelihood function using "optim" routine in R software. Using the test statistic and the Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) for instance, the Zero-Truncated Generalized Poisson-Akash Distribution (ZTGPAD) which was derived yields quite satisfactory fit as much as Zero truncated Poisson Lindley distribution (ZTPLD), Zero-Truncated Poisson-Akash Distribution (ZTPAD) and Zero-Truncated Generalized Poisson-Lindley Distribution (ZTGPLD) but fits better than Zero-Truncated Poisson distribution (ZTPD). Moreover, a real life dataset was used to evaluate the performance of the ZIGPAD, which outperformed the zero-inflated Poisson distribution. Hence, it is a promising alternative distribution in modeling zero-inflated count data.
