The purpose of this study was to develop an innovative model for industrial arts curriculum development in the secondary school. This was accomplished through building a model based on findings in the related research literature and verification of the model by industrial arts educators in Taiwan.

All industrial arts educators in Taiwan were considered as the target population. The final sample for this study consisted of 210 industrial arts educators on the island.

The questionnaire used in this study was developed from the innovative model of curriculum development. This instrument was comprised of three parts. Part I requested personal information, Part II dealt with beliefs regarding the industrial arts curriculum, and Part III was concerned with implementation of the industrial arts curriculum. The 50 items in the last two parts were closely related to the model elements.

A pilot study was conducted with 12 Chinese graduate students at the College of Education of The Pennsylvania State University. The result of the study indicated that much of the instrument was reliable. However, some revision and modification was made before conducting the main survey.

Non-parametric statistics were used to analyze the ordinal data collected. The Wilcoxon signed rank test and Kruskal-Wallis test of multiple comparison were used to test the 15 hypotheses investigated.

In this study, it was found that the majority of industrial arts educators in Taiwan agreed or strongly agreed on Beliefs Regarding the Industrial Arts Curriculum. There was no significant difference among industrial arts educators concerning Beliefs Regarding the Industrial Arts Curriculum and Implementation of the Industrial Arts Curriculum. There was also strong agreement among industrial arts educators concerning "What Should Be" in the Implementation of the Industrial Arts Curriculum, and that the 25 areas of Implementation of the Industrial Arts Curriculum in this study need to be implemented. Great support of the beliefs and implementation of industrial arts curriculum from industrial arts educators suggests that the tentative model of industrial arts curriculum development could be adopted in the junior high school industrial arts curriculum revision in Taiwan.
