Director: Verna Kieffer.
Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 2005.
This qualitative phenomenological study was designed to explore students' perceptions of their academic experiences in a newly developed diploma program for practical nurses. Six subjects from a college in Ontario were randomly selected from a total population of 100 students. Semi-structured interviews were conducted using the Neuman Systems Model (NSM) as a conceptual framework to explore the lived experiences of students in the first year of a new program. The aim of the research was to gather detailed information about students' experiences and perceptions of these experiences. Data were collected and 14 themes were identified. The NSM variables were utilized to organize and describe the findings.
