Obesity accounts for more than $6 8 billion in direct health care expenses each year, representing more than 6% of total US health care expenditures. Without successful intervention, it is anticipated that the number of obese individuals will double every ten years.
520 $a This study used a pre-experimental, one group, pre-test, post-test design to evaluate the effectiveness of individualized diet therapy for Caucasian females aged 20--50. The dietary intervention resulted in weight loss occurring in 75% of the participating subjects.
520 $a PHCPs need to help their patients make lifestyle changes, in small steps, that will lead to moderate and lasting weight losses. An individualized approach to weight management, with a focus on lifestyle modification, holds the most promise in aiding with the long-term reduction in the prevalence of obesity.
