In august 1993, an Experimental Graduate Program leading to a Doctor Degree in Education in Health Science was implanted as a project for Academic Initiative (IRA). This program is offered in conjunction between the Department of Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Education at the Rio Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico and the Institute of Higher Education in Health Sciences, appointed to the Dean of Academic affair of the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico. Nine professor of the Medical Sciences Campus faculty and a professor of the Family Ecology program of the Rio Piedras Campus were admitted to this program.

The objective of this research was to describe, from the student perception: how the program objectives were reached, identify the strength and weakness of the implantation of the program and to describe the changes in vision that were significative for the professors in relation to their teaching practices.

The design of this research is an evaluative research, of qualitative nature and phenomenology type. The focus group, the individuals interview and documents evaluations were used to collect the data. The Criticism model of curriculum evaluation was used, in this research because it was expected, in this research, that the professors could critically express their perceptions about their participation in the Experimental Program.

The research results were consistent with results expressed in the revised literature. The professors were agree on their opinion that as result of their participation in the Experimental Program, they demonstrate more leadership in administrative activities, curricular evaluation and research in education. They state changes in their visions related to teaching and learning process. The professors describe the program implantation process as on lack of administrative support. They also identify the lack of communication and participation during the design, development and implementation of the program among the faculty that design the program, faculty members that teach in the program, the administrators of the two campus offering the program, as a determinant factor in the uncertain development of the program.
