This paper examines the successful military and political tactics utilized by terrorist organizations. The case studies are Hizbollah, Hamas, ETA, and LTTE. Tactics including suicide bombing, car bombs, assassinations, kidnappings and hostage taking are examined. Participation in elections, ceasefires, and social services are among the political tactics identified. As these tactics are examined, why these tactics are successful is also studied. Suggestions are made for ways in which one might work to counter these successful military tactics.Subjects--Topical Terms:
