The purpose of this research is to examine differences in perception of birth experiences between primigravidas who have doula intervention and primigravidas who do not have doula intervention during their childbirth. Doula intervention includes a woman caregiver of another woman who is a professional experience labor companion that provides the woman and her partner emotional and physical support. A convenience sample of 22 primigravidas delivering was participants for this study. The Perception of Birth Scale was used to measure the primigravidas feelings about labor, delivery, and initial contact with the infant. A t-test was used to determine if there are differences in perception of the birth experience between primigravidas who have doula support and primigravidas who do not have doula support during their labor and delivery. Results showed the means of those with doula support were higher than those without doula support however, the means were not significantly different.
