0,000) households watch more television, and to investigate eating and activity relationships related to television. Surveys were sent to 1492 daycare providers and 4979 parents of preschoolers in South Dakota. Licensed day care providers completed the survey and distributed similar parent surveys. Daycare surveys asked provider to report time spent watching TV and DVD's, using the computer, and playing inside and outside. Parents completed surveys with demographics, child's weight and height, eating behaviors, and activity questions. Daycare providers (n=433) and parents (n=636) report playtime as activity of longest duration. Screen time was not different for low-income children, nor was it associated with overweight. A TV on while the child is eating was associated with overweight (p<0.01). Boys spend more time in outdoor play during the week (p<0.03) and weekend (p<0.001).
