Society has become increasingly diverse and multicultural leading museum professionals and curators to seek out innovative ways to engage these new audiences who may not be attracted by traditional methods. This shift is addressed by organizing programs and exhibitions that are focused on participation, interaction, every day experiences, and popular culture.

The Walker Art Center and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France, and Documenta in Kassel, Germany make a genuine attempt to connect with new audiences by incorporating artists and projects inspired by the spaces and people which surround them. These three case studies are excellent examples of how a museum, an exhibition and a modern day kunsthalle can address new audiences.
