Thesis (M.L.A.)--Mississippi State University, 2006.
The world is facing an epidemic of inactivity that causes gross health problems. This epidemic shows no signs of deceleration. This study explores the cause of this epidemic, and the various attempts at subduing its rampant run through the population. Public health interventions have not proven successful in containing this epidemic, so emphasis should be shifted to other methods. One of the most promising is environmental change.

This study makes an attempt to integrate information from previous literature, and apply it to existing conditions. It was determined that creating a connected and continuous network of pedestrian and cycle paths that could be used for utilitarian travel would provide the needed infrastructure to support active lifestyles, and curb the effects of the impending epidemic of inactivity. Finally, the study explores the integration of such a network into the existing infrastructure of a southern town.
