This study measured evidence of organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) and servant leader behaviors (SLBs) in three high-performing Catholic parishes. In social science, servant leadership and organizational citizenship have been shown to play a critical role in organizations. They are also viewed here as servant behaviors that are consistent with the teachings of Jesus, who stated that "anyone among you who aspires to greatness must serve the rest" (Mark 10:43-44) and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Luke 6:31). Utilizing focus groups, one-on-one interviews, observational techniques and archival research methods, the study found evidence of three SLBs and four OCBs. The three SLBs studied here are recognizing, serving and empowering, while the four OCBs are helping, initiating, participating and self-developing. This study also found interaction effects between specific leader and member behaviors and discovered six other characteristics that were associated with these three high-performing parishes.Subjects--Topical Terms:
