Thesis (M.A.)--Royal Roads University (Canada), 2007.
This project investigated how the characteristics and concepts of curatorial practice can inform leadership practice in facilitating organizational change. The Banff Centre's Leadership Lab sponsored the project to support their ongoing exploration of the integration of the arts, culture and leadership. Developing the essential competency to lead organizational change requires an understanding of organizational culture. Curatorial practice is also a source of cultural concepts and knowledge. This project explored the possibility of the intersection between these two disciplines through qualitative research involving participation from organizational leaders, consultants, curators and members of the arts community. The study findings confirmed there is potential for the application of curatorial practice to leadership and identified specific processes and characteristics that may be useful when facilitating change. The project recommends the sponsor integrate curatorial study and practices into their ongoing leadership development activities to support and enhance their innovative approach to multidisciplinary leadership development.
