Throughout the twentieth century science and literary theory have faced the same crises, committed the same paradigm shifts, and tackled the same complications to the ontologies of the world, knowledge, and the self. "The (De)Constructed Universe(al): Derrida and Twentieth Century Science" explores the parallel histories of these disparate disciplines while comparing how the strategies of both have changed over a century. Special attention is paid to Derrida's poststructuralism and to Relativity, quantum mechanics, astrophysics, and system theory. The ultimate project of this thesis is to borrow strategies from one discipline to answer questions and address aporias or ideological paralysis in the other.
