Adviser: Janice Spangenburg.
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2008.
During 2007 mortgage banking came under scrutiny due to internal policies and practices that lead to market instability and foreclosures. These practices may have been the result of a dominant ethical climate that existed throughout the industry. The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate ethical climate perceptions in a case study population of mortgage professionals in the Charlotte, North Carolina region. A total of 94 completed surveys were received and two dominant ethical climates were identified utilizing the ethical climate questionnaire developed by Victor and Cullen in 1988. Eighteen additional questions investigated if specific characteristics influenced perceptions and several factors produced significant differences between groups. Research findings may provide useful insights for future studies and industry leaders.
