As technology and management practices evolve there is an increased expectation that information will be more easily accessible and successfully leveraged to increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency. This study examined organizational factors and solutions that could affect the Canadian Forces Defence Learning Network (DLN) as they implement knowledge management practices. Action research methods were used to gather qualitative and quantitative data from DLN stakeholders to identify their level of readiness to engage in knowledge management practices. Surveys and interviews indicated that although knowledge sharing mechanisms and practices are identified as being part of the work environment, they are not being ingrained into the everyday work processes. This study demonstrated that respondents are willing to share knowledge but there are organizational factors impeding the development of a knowledge sharing culture. Recommendations are offered to facilitate the implementation of knowledge management practices in the DLN project.
