The purpose of this study was to compare static and dynamic proprioceptive abilities between athletes of various sports. The participants included 34 female collegiate soccer, basketball, and gymnastics athletes from Utah State University. Static proprioception testing utilized the Balance Error Scoring System (BESS). Dynamic proprioception was measured with the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT). Significant differences were shown between groups in both static and dynamic proprioception testing. No difference was shown between dominant and nondominant leg testing within each group. These conclusions indicate the need for specific proprioception training in addition to regular training in certain athletes.
