Allocentrism, organizational culture, team cooperation, and the centipede game.
- 50 p.
Adviser: Sandra Carpenter.
Thesis (M.A.)--The University of Alabama in Huntsville, 2006.
This study investigated relationships between team cooperation and individual personality traits, as well as organizational culture. Real-world teams participated in the centipede game, and their behaviors were recorded and coded to determine if individual traits, team traits, or organizational culture impacted cooperation. It was hypothesized that the individual personality trait allocentrism would relate to cooperation. It was also hypothesized that the team culture, called entitativity, would relate to cooperation. Also it was expected that organizational culture, manipulated through task instructions, would relate to cooperation. A significant relationship was shown between manipulated organizational culture and cooperation. After analyses, individual and team traits were not supported as predictors of cooperation. However, a significant relationship between allocentrism and entitativity was shown, as well as significant relationships between allocentrism and willingness to cooperate, and entitativity and willingness to cooperate.
