Method. Survey data was collected from twelve school division superintendents. Participants were randomly selected from small, medium, and large school divisions, with each size equally represented. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the degree of involvement of superintendents in specific leadership and management activities. Superintendent responses were also analyzed to identify the degree of involvement of superintendents in management and leadership activities based on division adequate yearly progress status for the 2005-2006 school year.

Findings. An ANOVA with a Tukey's Post Hoc revealed fourteen significant differences of superintendent responses to the degree of involvement in specific management and leadership activities based on school size. The differences identified in the level of involvement of superintendents of small, medium and large school divisions in the seven management and leadership areas indicated a higher degree of involvement of small school superintendents than medium and large division superintendents. The level of superintendent involvement in the area of financial management revealed three significant differences among superintendents. In the area of personnel management, there were five significant differences in the level of superintendent involvement. In the management and leadership areas of support services, instruction/curriculum, and student personnel and special services, two significant differences were identified in each respectively.
