Refining the definition of entrepreneurship.
Zimmerman, Jack.
Refining the definition of entrepreneurship.
- 190 p.
Adviser: June Schmieder.
Thesis (Ed.D.)--Pepperdine University, 2008.
The study uses the qualitative method of phenomenology to refine the definition of entrepreneurship based data collected from semi structured interviews of 13 practitioner entrepreneurs. An analysis of the experiences and insights data gathered from the interviews of the participants revealed the presence of, and motivation for, at least 5 distinct types of entrepreneurship, the requirements for opportunity recognition and action, often stimulated by an intense personal event, the significance of certain behaviors and personal values as opposed to innate traits, and the potential for studying entrepreneurship as an ecosystem. Many of the findings were supported by previous research. The findings are used to propose a refinement to the definition of entrepreneurship.
