520 $a The objective of this thesis is to answer the question: What does it mean to be sanctified? I investigated the Old Testament usage of qadas, primarily in Leviticus, and the New Testament usage of hagiazo, primarily in 1 Corinthians. As I encountered related passages outside these two books, I included them in this study.
520 $a Since I wanted to arrive at my own personal understanding and definition of sanctification based upon the biblical writings, my primary source was the Bible. I engaged in a comparative analysis of relevant passages of scripture. Additionally, I consulted commentaries, Bible dictionaries, journal articles, and books that address the particular passages of interest.
520 $a My conclusion is that being sanctified means to be set apart by God for his service and once set apart, we continually present and dedicate ourselves to serving God, and continually allow God to transform our innermost being, so that ultimately we can: (1) discern and fulfill his will and purposes and (2) exhibit proper outward behavior by allowing the premise of "loving our neighbor as ourselves" to govern our every action.
