Thesis (M.S.)--Utah State University, 2006.
China is undergoing rapid changes due to increase in foreign trade. Due to the "opening up" of the country in 1978, money is not the only thing flowing in and out of this country. Fast food industries from the United States continue to open additional restaurants there while different forms of media are more accessible to people living in China. Through the examination of several interviews with Chinese people conducted in two cities in China and on Utah State University campus, this thesis presents Chinese people's beliefs about businesses, products, and media from the U.S. It first focuses on fast food and then takes into account other goods entering China including items counterfeited for local consumption. It also considers people's attitudes about shopping at Wal-Mart. Next, this thesis discusses Chinese people's ideas about Hollywood films and U.S. television. This thesis also recognizes Chinese people's misconceptions about movies, television, and commercialism by revealing their attitudes after living in the U.S.Subjects--Topical Terms:
