The purpose of this study was to determine if a measure of social skills, the Social Performance Survey Schedule (SPSS) could be administered and scored in a computer-based format. Additionally, the study was designed to investigate the reliability and validity of the new version. Subjects for the study consisted of 126 psychiatric inpatients at a Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Results indicated that the new computer-based version was temporally stable and internally consistent. Evidence was found for construct validity. The results strongly indicated equivalency between computer-based and pencil and paper versions of the SPSS.
