Worldwide terrorist attacks have brought Islam to the attention of the world as never before, creating an unattractive image of the faith that is widely perceived in the West as a militant, and highly charged, fundamentalist movement with endless suicidal fanatics and a grudge against the West, in general, and the United States in particular. The September 11, 2001 attacks were a wakeup call, drawing Western attention to the dangerous and not widely-known Wahhabi radical extremism, whose ideology is responsible for these acts of terror.
