Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Dominguez Hills, 2007.
Worldwide terrorist attacks have brought Islam to the attention of the world as never before, creating an unattractive image of the faith that is widely perceived in the West as a militant, and highly charged, fundamentalist movement with endless suicidal fanatics and a grudge against the West, in general, and the United States in particular. The September 11, 2001 attacks were a wakeup call, drawing Western attention to the dangerous and not widely-known Wahhabi radical extremism, whose ideology is responsible for these acts of terror.

Islamic fundamentalism promotes terrorist acts that are never condoned by Islam, or inherent to the concept of jihad, or holy war. Radical militancy is not the only model for believers in Islam---it is simply the most visible due to its close connection with Saudi Arabia, the holy sites of Islam, and a number of schools teaching violent, xenophobic hatred of all non-Muslims.
