The objective of this study was to determine body weight, mohair production, and fiber characteristics in two lines of Angora goats being bred selectively for high (H) and low (L) juniper consumption and identify any differences that could be attributed to the selection criteria. Females (n = 150) plus offspring were assigned to two selection groups of H and L juniper consumers on the basis of fecal near-infrared reflectance spectrometry analysis. Fleeces shorn in fall and spring of the year from 2004 to 2007 were analyzed for quality characteristics. Clean yield for 2006-born kids (result of most selection) was lower for L goats than for H goats (79.2 vs. 81.0%, respectively, P < 0.01). Generally, there were very few differences between traits measured on H and L goats. Those differences actually observed were small and would not be expected to result in economic loss to the producer.
