This qualitative study of ten Jewish Orthodox women, who identified having conflict and aggression in their marital relationships, explored experiences of the role of cultural rituals and relationship factors, including attachment to and love for their partners, economic dependence, and concerns about the welfare of their children. Through interviews and the Conflict Tactics Scale II, this research also explored how conflict and aggression, as a dynamic, affected subjects and their partners, from the subjects' point of view.Subjects--Topical Terms:

Findings suggest that subjects experience low-level physical violence and numerous incidents of bidirectional psychological aggression. Subjects often express affection/love for their partners, and want to stay married. They have a high-level commitment to Orthodox Ritual Practice as it relates to intimate relationships and are concerned about how divorce would negatively affect children, financially and socially. Findings also suggest that most subjects view the aggression in their marital relationship as an interaction in which both subject and partner participate.
