Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2007.
The purpose of this study was to complete a community risk assessment of Santa Ana, California using the Communities That Care model. Twenty-nine indicators, taken from multiple public sources, were used to compare and contrast the status of Santa Ana with Orange County, California, and the United States on 17 risk factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency and teenage pregnancy. The risk factors of most concern for Santa Ana appeared to be extreme economic deprivation, lack of neighborhood attachment, family conflict, and academic failure. Thus, a multi-pronged approach, which targets each of these areas, is recommended to prevent and reduce delinquency and teen pregnancy in this community. Implications for social work practice, empirically-supported prevention programs, and directions for future research are discussed.Subjects--Topical Terms:
