Thesis (D.Min.)--Saint Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology, 2007.

This project provided three retreat experiences for parents of middle school and high school children---one for parents; two for families. The retreats were designed to provide opportunities for faith sharing in a safe, comfortable setting. The project's hypothesis predicted growth in comfort with and willingness to engage in their role as the primary religious educators of their children among participating parents. The fact that parents engaged in reflection and faith sharing with each other and their children was more important than any particular activities or materials used. Data were collected from Likert scale surveys as well as open-ended questions. The resulting data supported the thesis and demonstrated that parishes or schools with limited resources can assist their parents to more willingly exercise their role and that the long-standing teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in this matter is not merely exhortative but factual.Subjects--Topical Terms:
