This personal process thesis explored the effects of using art and Gestalt-based counseling to heal when dealing with major life changes. During a threeyear time period, I moved to a different culture where I lived in a remote African village for 15 months. I then became pregnant and was required to leave immediately. Upon return to the United States, I was jobless, without a permanent place to live, and trying to adapt to my upcoming role of mother. After the birth of my daughter, I spent a three-month period creating art and undergoing counseling to address the transitions that had occurred in the previous three years.Subjects--Topical Terms:

520 $a At the moments the transitions were occurring, I was incapable of understanding them, dealing with the emotions, and integrating them into the person I had become. Through this thesis process, I was able to address these issues by remembering the feelings and emotions associated with those past times. By using art and counseling to help process those hard and wonderful experiences, I was able to move on with my current life.
