Montgomery, Edwin A.
Integrating kinesthetic teaching styles into the classroom and the implications on classroom management.
- 63 p.
Adviser: Michael R. Hillis.
Thesis (M.A.E.)--Pacific Lutheran University, 2007.
The purpose of this study was to integrate kinesthetic teaching styles into eighth and ninth grade physical science and art curricula, and investigate how students responded and what challenges the teacher faced. This study took place in a mid-sized junior high located in a relatively low-income region. The participants were 148 eighth and ninth graders, their teachers, and a student teacher. This study found that integrating kinesthetic teaching styles requires dedication by both teacher and student. Flexibility and time management proved to be a strong necessity in curriculum design, second only to the necessity of thorough planning and the acquisition of and maintenance of materials. Hands-on integration addressed students' who do not optimally learn in traditional classrooms. Teachers should apply kinesthetic integration into classrooms in conjunction with the current curriculum, state standards, and learning goals at the same time.
