This Artist's Statement presents a directorial process, which led to a theatrical production of Bertolt Brecht's Baal. The play was presented at the University of Calgary by the Department of Drama in the University Theatre from October 24 to November 4, 2006.

Chapter 1 provides a treatment of the historicity surrounding the play text; the second chapter analyzes the play text with a focus on production; Chapter 3 gives a summary of translating the research and analysis into a staging of the play and the fourth chapter is a critique of the outcome.
