Thesis (M.A.)--Ursuline College, 2007.
The purpose of this research was to focus on the use of art with young females as they enter middle school. The study took place in an urban middle school during the first 15 weeks of the 2006-2007 school year. One Caucasian and two African American females were chosen for this research that began when all three were 11 years old. A curriculum of fifteen art tasks was designed to help the girls get to know themselves better in order to ease their transition into middle school, as well as adolescence. Each task helped the clients to think about her likes, dislikes, family situations, and friends or peers as it effects her thoughts, actions and choices. The clients were enthusiastic about art in general but were motivated for the majority of these sessions. By the end of the research, all three girls had established a base group of friends which they interacted with on a daily basis and had participated in at least one after school activity which increased their general demeanor, eased anxiety around their peers, and increased their self-esteem.Subjects--Topical Terms:
