Thesis (M.Ed.)--York University (Canada), 2007.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the current practices and attitudes toward workplace learning from corporate educators, and to learn how corporate educators define their role within an organization. That role is gaining precedence in organizations as more value is being placed on lifelong learning as a tool for organizational success and ultimately profitability. This paper outlines current literature from both the education and business communities to begin to close the gap that exists between these communities with regard to the corporate educator's role and adult learning theories. Corporate educators, more prominently known as facilitators in the business world, are responsible for designing and delivering customized learning initiatives designed to empower employees to become larger contributors to both individual and corporate success. The implications of my research suggest that the facilitator's role is dynamic, increasing in recognition, and fundamental to the success of any organization.
