The study's purpose was to search for significant correlations between summated factors generated by varimax rotation of data obtained with the Academic Motivations Inventory (AMI) and the Web Motivation Inventory (WMI). The study compared the motivations to use the Internet, as well as academic motivations, of online learners studying at Capella University where no option to study in any manner except online and through the Internet exists. Specifically, the study used a Web-based survey devised by combining the AMI, WMI, and one demographic question to provide data then compared to previous research. Results were very similar for the WMI and for the AMI. Data was analyzed using varimax rotation, which generated summated factors then analyzed for significant correlations. Research observations show those motivated to a high level of academic performance were motivated to use the Internet for research, while those seeking interactions with students and professors used the Internet to communicate.
