Thesis (M.A.)--University of South Alabama, 2002.
The purpose of this study is to explore the impact electronic mail (e-mail) has on interpersonal communication in the organizational setting. The principal research question is, “What effect, if any, has increased use of e-mail had on face-to-face interaction between complex organizations that aim to maintain the social dimension of the organization?”. The research will examine corollary questions concerning (1) the effectiveness of e-mail to maintain relationships among employees and (2) the impact of e-mail on social interaction among employees. A major Fortune 100 corporation provided a sample of employees that were invited to participate in this study's web-based survey.
