Twenty-four persons were interviewed based upon three questions. The questions for teachers were as follows. Questions for parents and children were similarly adapted to those groups. (1) What are your most memorable stories about the ways art has touched your life and the lives of children you have taught? (2) How have such experiences informed your teaching? (3) What do you feel are the most important things families can do to support artistic learning for their children?

The volumes contain stories of participants, themes that are extracted from the stories, related stories from the author's experiences, advice for parents and schools, the methodology of the study, conclusions, and a compilation of themes. The search of related literature is included throughout this volume. This volume is written in narrative format in an attempt to touch both heart and mind. The metaphor for the collection of narratives is a quilt that was made in relation to the research, contributing to an understanding of the study as an artistic process.

Art is defined as a universal capacity and a way of approaching the world with one's eyes, heart, soul, and senses open. The study addresses the historic lack of attention given to pursuing or understanding the important meanings of stories from home and school, pertaining to art. It presents these narratives as powerful arts advocacy tools while exploring firsthand accounts of ways that good art education is good education.
