This study confirmed that the concept of home can be observed through quantitative measurement. The instrument was administered to 150 women over the age of 60 in the North Central Texas region. Descriptive statistics are included.

This research was conducted in order to further explore the concept of home for older women. A review of literature provided theoretical background of elder housing needs and for the concept of home. An instrument developed by Perritt (1991) to measure the concept of home was administered to a nonprobability, purposive sample of older women.

Seven dimensions were identified as parts of the concept of home. The seven dimensions were: (a) Pursuit of Self-Actualization, (b) Physical Care and Safety, (c) Refuge, (d) Social Interaction, (e) Emotional Well-Being, (f) Stability, and (g) Self-Identity.
