520 $a Adolescent pregnancy is a growing concern in society today. Each year over one million young women become pregnant, with more than half choosing to give birth. Research has documented numerous consequences for the young parents and their offspring. Family support has been found to mitigate many of the problems associated with early parenthood.
520 $a The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of perceptions of family support upon pregnant and parenting adolescents' expectations of their futures. Results showed that, overall, adolescents felt supported by family members, had a positive outlook, and believed that early pregnancy and parenthood had had little affect upon them. Friends were found to be important components of the teenagers' support systems.
