Thesis (M.A.)--Central Missouri State University, 1995.
This thesis concerns itself with a relatively young line of theoretical discourse known as postmodernism. Postmodernism can be conceptualized as an alternative method of examining the social world, including the methods by which humans attempt to generate further understanding and promulgate new knowledge. Postmodernism began as a commentary on humanity, but has now become, among other things, a critical method of examining knowledge, and the ways in which humans develop mutual understandings. Postmodern narratives have found their way into literally every liberal arts discipline, as well as various elements of the humanities, such as art and literature. This thesis will give the reader a firm grasp of what postmodernity is, as well as its potential to influence sociology and sociological theory in the near future. Furthermore, it will exemplify the ways in which postmodernity can be an alternative and insightful means of examining the social world.Subjects--Topical Terms:
