Major Professor: Julianne Abendroth-Smith.
Thesis (M.S.)--Utah State University, 1998.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects that two different instructional strategies, cued and noncued, had on the performance of accuracy and distance, and kinematic variables of knee and trunk angles in learning a golf swing. The subjects participated in five golf lessons where each subject was limited to 45 practice balls, three sets of 15. Feedback was balanced evenly over the 5 days of instruction. Following lesson one, subjects were pretested. Subjects were posttested at the completion of lesson five. Subjects participated in a retention test 2 weeks after the posttest. Measurements of distance and accuracy were recorded for the pretest, posttest, and retention test. Measurements of absolute trunk angles and relative knee angles (degrees) were examined using motion measurement software, which requires a video recording of the subject, from which a digital representation is derived to allow for kinematic analysis. The video recording was taken from a saggital viewpoint. The digital representation was made from the right side of the body for five positions during each golf swing. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
