Thesis (Au.D.)--Central Michigan University, 2002.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the educational efficiency of a multimedia presentation versus a typical booklet in educating audiologists. An interactive multimedia presentation was developed to present written information, supplemented with visual and sound support. The presentation dealt with the treatment of “autophony.” Twenty-one subjects, audiologists with experience fitting hearing aids, were asked to take a brief multichoice pretest before reading or viewing the materials. The subjects were then given educational materials to read and view at their own convenience. Then the subjects were asked to complete a survey that assessed preferences in presentation style. The results showed that the subjects learned equally from the multimedia presentation and preferred obtaining information from multimedia. This study has implications for the manner in which continuing education can be provided in the future given the enhancement made possible through technology.
