Four dependent measures were used: Two subtests from the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) and two personal problem-solving measures developed specifically for this study. For both measures, two test forms were developed and used to counterbalance the pre- and posttest.

Results revealed no significant differences between Humor and Nonhumor Groups on any of the four measures, suggesting that humor did not improve divergent thinking. An unexpected effect of test form on the TTCT Unusual Uses subtest evolved: Subjects in the Humor Group taking Form A first outperformed subjects taking Form B first.
