This case study was designed to answer a specific question: how can a Chinese church build an effective multiple staff ministry? The hypothesis of this study states that an effective multiple staff ministry is dependent upon the mutual respect of both the American-born and overseas-born leadership, looking at their differences as assets instead of obstacles, and developing a spirit of interdependency for growth.Subjects--Topical Terms:

This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of a multiple staff ministry in the Greater Los Angeles area and draw implications which hopefully will impact Chinese churches at large. The Chinese churches studied have a multiple staff ministry with different styles and needs; they have different make-up in their teams and they have different years of experience. But they all have a common struggle: how to serve the Chinese congregation's changing needs?

This study utilized a questionnaire mailed to 138 pastors serving in 46 Chinese churches with a multiple staff ministry in the Greater Los Angeles area. The questionnaire sought to obtain general information concerning the overall picture of the stages of multiple staff ministry among these Chinese churches. The areas surveyed include the staff meetings, staff retreat, staff relationships, job description and models of the multiple staff. By analyzing the results of the data, this study hopes to establish that the respect and interdependence between the American-born Chinese (ABC) and the Overseas-born Chinese (OBC) are the key to the success of an effective multiple staff ministry.
