Slaughter, Carron Steffanie.
Recognizing and responding to traumatic experiences: A manual for clergy.
- 174 p.
Adviser: Sheryn T. Scott.
Thesis (Psy.D.)--Azusa Pacific University, 2002.
Accurate assessment and treatment of traumatic symptomology subsequent to stressful events is very important. American families, particularly older family members and ethnic minorities, have high rates of church and temple involvement (Weaver, Koenig, & Larson, 1997). Therefore, clergy are often first in contact with individuals suffering due to traumatic experiences. A manual was developed to enhance the ability of clergy to provide counseling to individuals and families who have experienced some form of trauma. A review of literature regarding specific factors that lead to posttraumatic stress disorder is presented along with the results of a needs assessment, evaluation, results, and recommendations for the manual.
