The focus on the differences between the religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam has exacerbated tensions among these faiths' practitioners, often to the point of war. Instead of focusing on their differences, the following interdisciplinary exploration presents the hypothesis that these three faiths have far more in common with each other than not. Specifically, this thesis postulates that these religions share a common heritage, born in the Abrahamic Covenant, and that all three worship the same monotheistic God, albeit in considerably different fashions. The thesis' main body compares and contrasts the three faiths' sacred texts' accounts of Abraham, his sons Isaac and Ishmael, the resulting covenant, and the role of that covenant in Judaism, in Christianity and in Islam. While primarily stressing similarities, this research also addresses controversies, particularly each faith's claim that it alone is this covenant's rightful heir.
