Thesis (Ph.D.)--California Institute of Integral Studies, 2002.
This research explores how myths represent reality in the participants' minds of what the studied organization was, is, and can be. Myths tap into the collective consciousness of members for framing organizational reality in a fundamentally different way from what is conceived under the typical reductionistic view of organizations. The study uses the construction of a mythograph to trace the past transformation journey of the organization and to provide a powerful context for envisioning the journey ahead.

The research builds on the work of Harrison Owen through the constructs of organizational consciousness and organizational worldview, both seen as central to organizational transformation. The research articulates an organizational transformation framework that can be used by others involved in practice or research in this area. It is founded on a transpersonal research paradigm and uses integral inquiry as its research methodology.

The investigative case study conducted as part of this research explores organizational myths in the Ice Cream Division (ICD) of Hindustan Lever Limited in India, a business under tremendous pressure to perform while having to reckon with a range of historical and organizational factors. It was found that ICD, a typical modern organization stuck in a reductionistic worldview, was able to begin its transformation journey by evolving the collective consciousness of the participants and envisioning a new story for the organization by using myths as a vehicle.
