Strong critical thinking skills are imperative in the field of health science and these skills should be strengthened throughout the course of study. An individual's critical thinking ability may be a function of learning style. It is postulated that learning styles may have an influence on the critical thinking ability of the student. By correlating learning style with critical thinking in three groups of health professional students, nursing, veterinary medicine, and dentistry, data emerged that may help educators to facilitate a student's critical thinking ability based on learning style preference. Nursing, veterinary medicine and dental students completed the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory and the Hanson-Silver Learning Style Inventory for Adults. Results from this study produced a statistically significant positive correlation between the intuition-thinking learning style and the total critical thinking disposition score for the entire sample. Other correlations revealed a positive correlation between the inquisitiveness and truth-seeking disposition and the intuition-thinking learning style in the entire sample. There were no correlations identified between the demographic variables of age, gender, grade point average and previous work experience; and learning styles or critical thinking ability.
